Shook Up

Mom and Dad and my aunt Paula had a couple hour layover in Denver Friday morning so Jake and I picked them up and took them out for brunch at the Moonlight Diner.  Well, I guess dad paid, so technically we DROVE them to brunch.  Our credit cards had been hacked from Great Britain, so the card company told us to cut them up and then forgot to process our replacement cards.  Just trying to justify why we didn't treat my parents : )  Even though it wasn't for a very long time, it was a fun chance to see them for a bit.

Jake asked me to check out the artists playing at Swallow Hill for Friday night to decide if we wanted to go to any performances that evening and it got me browsing online for what all was playing in Denver.  We love going to live music performances around the city but usually it's a somewhat tedious process weeding through all the different entertainment, cost, wholesome entertainment, etc.  But somehow I stumbled across JamBase.com and was thrilled to find something like an RSS feed of performances!  You still have to do a little weeding as it doesn't say what genre, but at least all the options are in one location!  So, we ate Moonlight Asian (not sure what was with eating at all the moonlight restaurants) and decided to see the Shook Twins playing close to our house in Lowry.  Besides the crazies that got up and decided to dance in front of us, they were such a fun group to listen to!  They are incredibly talented.

They played the banjo, guitar, bass, violin, mandolin, weird egg shaker thingy, tambourine, loop audio, and can't forget the ghost phone...which is a crazy microphone that sounds like she was talking through an old party line phone!  I know...from the looks of it...who woulda thought. ; )

Saturday, we were supposed to attend a co-workers baby shower but we got distracted with cutting down trees and raking up old mulch and Slate's...excretions. yuck.  The old owners for some reason poured a ton of concrete around one of the trees we were cutting down.  So as we were breaking it up to haul off, I turned over the following slab, and as the picture shows, a leaf was still green that had been underneath it for who knows how long!?  It's really strange that the leaf would still be green when it was only protected between the concrete and soil. Dad..explanation?

Fred and Jodi are visiting so our Sunday evening was spent with them.  I also enlightened a couple HS boys to the wonderful world of Load Runner.  For all who don't know what that is, I feel that you are really deprived : )
