Kanorado 2014

When I was in college, each summer I spent a weekend in Illinois for Jr. High Girls Camp, being a counselor.  Here's a pic to reminisce those times.

 

Anyway, after college and moving to Colorado, going back to IL seemed to long of a drive so some girl friends and I started our own camping trip that we called Kanorado.  Our first year was in 2009 at No Name campground near Glenwood Springs, CO.  Besides the fact that it was a 3 hour drive on top of the 7 from KS, we swam, rock climbed, sang, ate, and had an awesome time!  Something that we all knew would continue. Look at some of these cuties from that first year!  The original group was mostly late Jr Highers, with a few high schoolers.

And now 6 years later, most of the older girls that helped start up Kanorado have moved, married, had babies, and so forth.  Prior to our trip this summer, those of us left knew some changes needed to happen for leadership manpower.  Our strategy became picking a central location between KS and CO and the original campers now in college offered to take over planning!  I get heart tickles knowing the next generation has stepped up and taken charge of something that has been so powerful over the years for connecting and encouraging these girls.  The CO girls look forward to it for months in advance.  

The topic they picked was "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made." Much of the weekend was focused on putting our self image in the hands of our Maker and letting Him dictate our worth not letting the world tell us otherwise.  This topic is so important for the teen years, and a great reminder for us older ones that still struggle every now and then.  Carolyn and I went as the moms, carpooling the girls out, encouraging resolution when there was conflict, and bandaging boo-boo's.  Oh and I was the fire starter.  I really need to pass that job on, I'm getting to old :D  I have such a love for these girls and God blessed us again with a wonderful trip!

Since I have time and space, I also thought I would introduce the contributor to getting made fun of a lot on the trip.  This is my bug shirt.  And it may be really dumb looking, but it works ten times better than Off!
