Bees!

ha...the birds and the bees. I just cracked myself up on my post titles : )

so remember when I said "Jake: welp...the first honeybee entered the building. *SMACK* "?? John Smith (the pastor of the church in our same building) came over and told us that bees were getting in to his office. When it was checked out, we found a woodpecker hole filled with honeybees. well...

Birds!

One of our Seasonal Laborers was injured last summer. The rest of the fall and winter of 2009 I took him to all kinds of doctor appointments. When it was time for him to have surgery, they performed an EKG and canceled the surgery immediately because of how bad his heart was. He decided to go back to Mexico and get his heart taken care of by this shock therapy that he'd heard about. A couple weeks back he came back up, and he brought me this set of birds. When you push a rock, they chirp and move around. VERY annoying. I decided one lazy afternoon when no one was in the office to plant the birds in the ceiling above the install divisions desks. I thought that once you turned it on, it would go off randomly. Unfortunately though, as soon as it became still, it no longer sounded. Sarah slammed the cupboard door once though, and it sounded them so we decided to leave it up there. All of us had completely forgotten about it until...

July 21st - 2:05pm

Jake: Welp...the first honeybee entered the building. *SMACK*

*chirp chirp chirp chirp*

Enger's thoughts based on his facial expression: I am really confused why there is chirping coming from our ceiling...

Brit: *rolling with hysteria on the floor*

Guy managers: *scratching their heads trying to figure out why Brit is laughing so hard

NOTHING was said about the fact that there was chirping coming from the ceiling.


2:45pm

Jake lets the light swing down because there were about 5 more honeybees in the light. The birds start chirping again. Jake heads to the front to get a flashlight.

Blake sits there looking confused and then suspicously: Tifani, where'd your bird thing go?

I just turned and walked away. Jake stuck his head up in the ceiling with a flashlight to find out where the bees were coming in. I'm SURE he saw it...but being Jake...he didn't say a thing : )

Enger must know that the birds are up there and is taking pleasure slamming his cabinet door randomly to set them off.

Enger: *slam of cabinet door*

*chirp chirp chirp*

Kris: GREAT.. Now we have birds in here.

Kansas Wedding

This past weekend Dominique and I headed East for a wedding in Manhattan, KS, home of my Alma Mater Kansas State University and where I spent four wonderful years of my life. I still have never yet driven home and been bored by the flatlands. One of my favorite spots is about 30 minutes West of Salina where they have very rolling hills and a wind farm. We happened to be driving through this area at dusk.

We ate some Pizza Shuttle upon arrival with Brady up at the Old Stadium. Watched some entertaining soccer played by what I like to call, "crazy asians." No malice in that...they just have very unique ways of playing soccer : ) When it was dark we decided to scamper around campus. It was like a walk down memory lane. Only with lots of changes. It's incredibly beautiful! We sat on top of Shellenberger for some star gazing and chatting...until Dom fell asleep and almost rolled off to her death. ; )

Then the reason for the drive was Saturday afternoon. Adam & Renee exchanged their vows and are happily wed!

The invitation said feel free to dress to accomodate being outside for the reception. It was insanely hot, so Ice, Dom, and I put on t-shirts and capris. We drove in and everyone else was still in their church clothes : \ We felt really embarrassed and sat down real fast so no one could see us. After a while though everyone else was starting to strip off layers and change, so then we felt comfortable enough to mingle.

It was a blessing getting to see old friends! Sometimes you forget how much can change in two years, yet sometimes how NOTHING has changed in two years.

oh...and domo was definitely mistaken as my sister multiple times. typical.

Ohhhh Noooo!

Today we had our monthly Management Meeting. It was my month to do education so I played this sardonic video about Employee Complaints. The #1 reason for employment lawsuits or work complaints is "My boss didn't take me serious." Dr. Joni Johnston, an HR Consultant since 1991 says:

"Feelings -- not money -- drive an employee to the lawyer's office and in to the court system. The vast majority of normal people file charges because they don't feel valued, respected, and listened to. When employees are not treated fairly, litigation can carry immense pyschic and otherwise perceived benefits -- to "show" the company that they wrong, etc."

My main theme was to discuss and encourage the taking serious of employee complaints. We discussed to major labor laws, Discrimination of the Title VII Protected classes and Sexual Harassment namely a Hostile Work Environment. Both of these are subjects that have been brushed on and our managers need to be aware that how they react to a situation determines whether we become financially ruined or not. to put it not over the toppish sounding : ) I hear a lot of complaints, some of which have a lot of merit. But even the ones that don't have much merit, should be heard and the process towards reconciliation started. I think it was a good discussion and I hope the importance of communication was reinforced appropriately.
