Let it Snow!

Jake & I spent all day Saturday baking/cooking as it was our turn to serve at church.  We knew it was going to be cold and snowy, so we decided on Tortilla soup and a few of our favorite desserts.  We also knew that since there was a large potential of getting 6 to 12 inches of snow, the crowd would most likely be pretty slim.  But what we didn't realize was that as 10:30am came along, no one would come to church!  Dan and Tess arrived, but we were confused and I finally called some friends to find out that CHURCH WAS CANCELED!  Jake's grandpa was supposed to call and tell everyone.  We thought it was hilarious that he called everyone...except his family : )  So Jake headed out to plow snow and I cleaned up/worshiped and then decided to cross county ski over to Tess'. (Dan went out to help shovel snow)

Two hours and 2 to 3 foot drifts and painful blisters later, I was thankful to take off wet boots and sit down! Potentially not the brightest plan I have had in a while.  But, it was so peaceful out that I don't majorly regret it even though my body might tomorrow.  Then, after supper with DT, I went with Jake while he was plowing.  This picture is really blurry because I was trying to be sneaky taking it.  I wanted to capture the sight we were blessed with....

 ...a really large man...'walking' his pug...in shorts...in an electric wheel chair!!  He even had a headlight on the front.  The tiny pug made this a hilarious sight!

In regards to the snow, it sounds like a lot of the midwest is getting hit. My dad took this 'what I think to be a phenomenal' picture looking SW from Ralph's place. I'm pretty sure he was plowing through the 18 INCHES they got.  They had more snow than they have had in my lifetime (that I remember) and sounds like are getting nailed again tonight. Thankful for them and us that we are all getting the very much needed moisture!

In other news, I got my mom's piano tuned for the first time since she let me bring it to Colorado.  Turns out that it is a really bad and expensive thing to wait 3.5 years between tunings!?!  The tuners that came were an 80 something year old man and his wife.  He is blind and tunes the piano and his wife drives him, reads her kindle, and uses the screwdriver to put everything back in place. : ) Talk about a help-mate!  I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with them (spending the afternoon should be the key phrase telling you just how out of tune/dirty it was :S).

Today, since we didn't have services, I listened to a sermon online that I just randomly picked.  The title was To be Prepared and it was about the end times. It was interesting because I've never heard the perspective that we are living in the end times because any time after Jesus rose and before he comes again...are the end times.  But his point was not to speculate about when, etc, he was talking about preparation.  On Christmas, a child is excited for the day, while his mom is preparing for the day.  We, like the mom, should be preparing for the day Christ returns, not just excited for the day in itself. Luke 21:34 "Be careful not to let yourselves become occupied with too much feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life, or that Day may suddenly catch you." It was great encouragement for facing this coming week.  Not that anything major is happening, it's just that preparation should be a daily decision, not a future "one day." I pray that tomorrow can be another day my heart can seeks the Spirit to teach/prepare me for glorifying my Savior.
