Spring Adventures

Since I have last shared a little of life, we've gone to Kansas 2 more times (with a 3rd time for me tomorrow), taken a road trip vacation, renovated our backyard, and successfully saved our garden from many attempts from hail to destroy it.  Life has been full and fun.

Backyard Take 1. A couple of guys from Jake's crews came and helped us get started on our backyard.  By the end of this day, our yard was graded with irrigation and edging installed and the garden planted.

Backyard Take 2.  We laid the sod the Thursday before we took the middle schoolers to KS.  I was the one that took the measurements for the sod and we came out with 1 roll extra. Patting myself on the back for an estimation well done.

Backyard Take 3, two months later.  New fence and gorgeous green grass.  Except the spots where we can't get Slate to stop peeing : ( It's such a comforting feeling to walk in the backyard and have such a lovely view instead of mounds of dirt and weeds.  The little people in our life have already enjoyed playing back here, which was a primary reason I was so anxious to get this project completed.  Dad welded us some VB poles because we think we have enough of a yard to play at least 3 on 3!  Bring on the summer fun!

Oh and while we're on renovation commentary, here are pictures of our finished basement! .  We are still wanting to stain the floor, put some shelving up, and such, but for now, we are just enjoying having it back to a usable state!

Trip #2 to KS was with Jake's family going to visit my family.  Good ole life on the farm.  Jake was able to drive the bulldozer, a pool was put up and then promptly blown down, and the weather even cooperated and produced a thunderstorm that we could watch roll across the plains.  It's always good to be home, even for a short period of time.

  

 

This little beauty just graduated from 8th grade.  I moved here when she was 7. Man does time fly.  She is growing in to an incredible woman of God!

Jake's summers are very busy so we were thankful to be able to get away for Memorial Day weekend for some quality time.  There is so much to see in Colorado so it ended up being a 900ish mile vacation.  Which got tiring at times.  But we enjoyed seeing new parts of CO that neither of us had seen before and everything was green and lush with all the snow we had this winter.

...or in this case in the Ouray area...still snowy.  The picture below to the right is of a skiier we watched start and almost get taken out by an avalanche.

Trip #3 to KS was for a wedding.  We stayed with Marge and Morris at the "Barn" and got to spend good quality time with them, Chel, my parents, and friends we haven't seen in ages.  Sometimes when your travel there and back is almost as much time as you are there, the weekend can feel like you are running 100 miles an hour.  But this time, we had a wonderfully relaxing time.
